Men's Basketball Wins Season Opener

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's basketball team held off a Mount Aloysius comeback for the 59-57 win to open the 2021-22 season.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 59, Mount Aloysius 57

How It Happened

  • The Eagles went on a 16-6 run early in the first half to separate themselves from the Mounties
  • Bridgewater entered halftime up 36-26 behind 16 points from Andy Pack and 11 from Rashod Smith
  • Aaron Oates and Pack opened the second half with back-to-back buckets before Bridgewater went the next four minutes without a basket
  • Mount Aloysius tied the game at 50-50 with six minutes to play, turning the remaining minutes of the contest into a back-and-forth affair
  • The Mounties had the 57-56 lead with just over a minute to play when Pack drove to basketball to give Bridgewater the 57-58 edge
  • Strong rebounding from Liam Caswell and Kellen Hodge kept the Mounties from earning second chance points in the final seconds of play
  • Pack was fouled with four seconds to go and added a made free throw attempt for the 59-57 victory

Match Notes

  • Pack paced Bridgewater with a game and career-high 25 points and a career-high nine rebounds
  • Smith added 15 points, three rebounds and two steals
  • Oates contributed eight boards 
  • Bridgewater capitlized off of Mount Aloysius's turnovers, creating 19 points compared to the Mounties nine
