Volleyball Splits SVU Tri-Match

BUENA VISTA, VA-The Bridgewater College Volleyball team split their tri-match Saturday afternoon at Southern Virginia University. BC won their first match against Penn State Harrisburg by a score of 3-0 and lost against Southern Virginia by a score of 0-3. 

Match One: Bridgewater 3, Penn State Harrisburg 0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-17)

Madison Haynes led the Eagles in game one, with ten kills to go along with a .350 kill percentage. Victoria Wilson had 26 assists as well as seven digs and six kills. Rachel Gaston added nine kills along with two blocks. Jenna Hamra also pitched in 12 digs. 

The first set was a battle until the end, but Bridgewater was able to pull out the set win on a kill by Deja Booker on an assist from Wilson.

The Eagles dominated the second set, going on a 15-4 run to end the set by a score of 25-10. 

BC took a 22-11 lead in the set three, however Penn State Harrisburg battled their way back to get them within 24-17 until a final kill by Victoria Wilson gave the Eagles the match win. 

Match Two: Bridgewater 0, Southern Virginia 3 (25-17, 27-25, 25-20) 

Taylor Sale had nine kills and three block assists. Victoria Wilson had 17 assists as well as three service aces. Macon Frey picked up 12 digs and Madison Haynes had four blocks.

In the first set Bridgewater jumped out to an early 5-1 lead. However, SVU went on a 10-2 rally to take a 15-8 lead and the Eagles were never able to recover. 

Set two was back-and-fourth all the way until the end. Two huge kills by Taylor Sale and two by Deja Booker gave Bridgewater a 25-24 lead. However, SVU scored three straight points to win the set. 

Bridgewater battled their way from a 20-12 deficit and cut the lead to 23-20, however they could not keep the match alive, and lost the set by a final score of 25-20. 

The Eagles next match will be at home on Saturday Oct. 21 against ODAC rival Lynchburg.
