VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team scored the first six goals of the second period to overcome a halftime deficit, beating Virginia Wesleyan 11-7 on Saturday.
Kristen Stark had four goals and an assist, while Anna O'Hara added a hat trick and Sarah Yashinskie scored twice.
Grace Stang led the defense with three caused turnovers and Mackenzie Parcell picked up eight ground balls. Mikaela Brooks made 10 saves in the cage.
Trailing 4-3 at halftime, the Eagles pulled level on Stark's goal in the opening minute of the second half.
The teams then combined to go scoreless for nearly 13 minutes. The Marlins hurt themselves with two straight yellow cards, which allowed Bridgewater to surge ahead with man-up goals from Yashinskie (with 16:21 to go) and Stark (with 13:42 remaining).
Dwyer Neal made it 7-4 27 seconds later, with O'Hara then scoring twice in a span of 41 seconds to complete the run of six straight second half goals.
BC actually scored seven straight overall- the Eagles trailed 4-2 after 27 minutes of play but cut the deficit to one at the break on a Yashinskie goal.
The Marlins got 12 saves from goalie Jordan Moilanen, while Ashley Campos had two caused turnovers and five ground balls.
Bridgewater (9-3, 3-2 ODAC) will host defending conference champions Washington & Lee on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
