Quakers Rally In Singles To Defeat Eagles

BRIDGEWATER - Bridgewater College took a 2-1 lead after doubles play Sunday afternoon but Guilford College controlled play in singles to rally for a 6-3 win in ODAC tennis men's tennis action.played on Mapp Courts.

Bridgewater's Freddie Roberts and Nathaniel Horner earned the first point with an 8-4 victory over Jarod Gandy and Kai Glass at No. 3 doubles. Guilford evened the score at No. 2 where Elijah Gregory and Mason Robb turned back Emmett Johnson and Kris Stokes 8-3. The Eagles' No. 1 duo of Joe Dillenbeck and Josh Rodgers gave Bridgewater a 2-1 lead with an 8-5 victory over Tate Godwin and Graham Pearson.

Guilford took wins at the first three singles flights to lead 4-2. Gregory was first off the court with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Johnson at the No. 3 flight. Godwin followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Dillenbeck at No. 1. In the closest singles match, Robb needed three sets to defeat Rodgers. The two split sets by identical 6-4 scores before Robb took the deciding set 6-1.

Pearson scored the clinching point for the Quakers when he defeated Roberts 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 slot.

Bridgewater picked up its lone singles win at No. 5 singles where Horner rolled past Chase Chacon 6-3, 6-1.

Guilford's Glass closed out the match with a tight 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 6 over Sonet Gandhi.
